WHAT , WHEN AND HOW ?
What is CLAT?
CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a
non-statutory body created under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the
convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law
Universities in the country. An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of
candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University for
admission to their UG/PG programs, as per the eligibility, reservation and
other criteria laid down under the respective statutes of the participating
Universities. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all India entrance
examination, conducted on rotation by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) for
admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree programs
Eligibility
For UG Program
Candidate should be Passed 10+2 or equivalent
examination with the minimum of: -
(a) Forty-five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/ (Specially Abled Persons) Categories and
(b) Forty percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST Category

CLAT examination comprises 5

For every wrong answer there is negative marking of 0.25 marks.
In case of equal marks secured by candidates, the procedure to break the tie will be as per the following order:
(i) Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT-2018
(ii) Higher age
(iii) Computerized draw of lots
Legal Aptitude section remains the most significant part of CLAT.
Its importance can be inferred from the fact that the section carries the
maximum weightage and also its the decision-making section i.e. in the
case of a tie, examinees will be selected on the basis of their marks in this
section.
Legal Aptitude is based on the candidate's ability to logically decipher the answer from the question.

The section comprises 50 questions.

1 mark will be allotted to the candidates for every correct
answer.
How to
crack CLAT, 2018
It is completely evident that the pattern of CLAT examination is no
more quantative but it’s more quality based. Please keep in mind that if you
want to perform well in the exam the you should concentrate on smart study
rather than studying everything. That means you need to study as pet the
prescribed exam pattern and syllabus. So, as per the given pattern for CLAT,

section will talk about all the important topics:
Legal
fact
In
this section, direct questions based on Law are asked to test candidates’
knowledge of legal facts. To effectively attempt the questions, one must have a
good knowledge of amendments and judgments. Important topics from this
sub- section are:
- Preamble
- Fundamental rights and duties
- Directive Principles
Legal
Reasoning
In this
section, students are given a factual situation and they have to apply legal
principles to it. Rather than legal knowledge, candidate’s legal aptitude and
logical skills are tested. Questions are generally asked from the following
topics:
- Constitution of India
- Law of tort
- Law of contract
- Indian Penal Code
Legal
GK
Questions
under this part are based on both current as well as static legal GK. Following
are the important topics:
- Supreme Court of India,
- Bar Council of India
- Ministry of Law and Justice
- High Court of Delhi
- Government of India
- Knowledge about the hierarchy of Indian Judiciary
- Torts, amendments, recommendations, landmark judgments
and law commission appointments.
Tips:
Here are some important tips to ace in
it.

Do not assume anything on your own and apply the facts.
·
Strict application of the principle i.e. think logically and
avoid thinking emotionally.
·
Choose the option which comes closest to the given legal principle
and elimination method can be used.
·
Do not choose an option based on moral considerations
·
Read a newspaper daily and try to learn new topics/ facts from
it.
·
Solve as many sample papers/mock tests/ previous year question
papers.
·
One can answer Legal facts section very easily with the proper
knowledge of Fundamental right, Amendment, Judgement and
Recommendations & Chairpersons of law commissions
·
Focus more on Legal GK section and reading the newspaper/ watching
news channels is the best source. Also, it will not only help answering Legal
Aptitude GK questions but also will aid in CLAT GK section.
